yes, yes. a friend said to me the other night that there are parents at her daughter’s school who won’t make eye contact with her, but “friend” her on facebook. she is like, “come talk to me!”

My family and friends wonder why I don’t join Facebook when I have a Youtube page (so I must be in favor of it all right?) Truth is, after working in the entertainment industry and getting letters from people I don’t know (and then one ends up being my room mate!) I’ve decided I don’t need 700 “friends”. 200+ on a Christmas card list is enough to think about right now (some with the same last name who don’t even reciprocate!)

So funny, I’ve been saying the same thing about Facebook (and the like) for a while now. Just because we walked the same halls in school or work and maybe even may have said “hi” on occasion, does NOT make us friends. I think people get caught up in the “I remember so-and-so” nostalgia and get add-a-friend crazy. Shared proximity is often not the same thing as friendship.

You just made me check my Facebook and I got side tracked with my comment. *lol* I think the rules are just different in the online world. I’m not offended if someone doesn’t make me a friend. And on the flip side of that I don’t just make anyone my friend. My Facebook has less than 10 people at the moment. I do think you have to be careful with home many of these sites you have yourself on. In the past I’ve spead myself too thin, ended up with blog/online burn out.

I think the trick to it is been able to manage/judge the type of people that are in your friend list.

I totally want to post this video on my facebook page- may I? I should also ask, can I- is it possible- hmm, maybe as a link.

Anyway, I joined facebook because I was invited to join a group my highschool graduating class started. On one hand, I was able to reconnect with a handful of people that I really think are awesome, and now we keep in touch via other means. On the other hand, I keep getting these “so-and-so Is friends with this guy and thinks you might know him too” invites. Yeah, I know him. He was a douche bag (pardon me) in high school and I sure as heck don’t want to know him now. That’s what I hate about facebook. That is also why I don’t have 700 “friends”.
