Will This Cold Ever End?

Hey people, I have to say keeping all the balls up and having a newborn with a cold when I have one myself is challenging. We are now both on week 2 of this cold. It’s not bad, but durable. Rex wakes up a lot from about 4 to 7am, which are the key REM hours for sleep. It breaks our heart to hear his stuffy breathing. He has been doing a bit better when we put him in his vibey seat (vibe off, cause that’s a lot of batteries) per doctor suggestions.

The upright is better than the lying down. But frankly, after I nurse him in bed, I’m often too pooped to put him back in the vibey, so we both pass out together in bed. And he feels so yummy and cuddly, but then he wakes up more. But you know how beat tired you are that you can’t even get out of bed? Need to work on that.

My other challenge is to get Vivien to school on time. I think she’s been on time once since Rex was born. Eight a.m. comes so fast.

  1. How come your toenails are so beautiful and you just had a baby? My toenails didn’t look good until a year later.

  2. I used to just get a couple of pillows after i was done breastfeeding and prop baby up right next to me. Used saline spray and a good humidifier to get that yucky virus all out of his and my system. Also if you hear the baby cough something out, try to get it out as fast as you can w/ a seperate bulb syringe or something, b/c the body is trying to get rid of it. You probably know all this, but if there are mommy’s out there who need the tip…i hope it helps.

  3. Oh I am totally in the same boat as you right now. My son is 12 weeks and he just grunts and snorts trying to breathe. And yesterday, I started feeling crappy.
We used a humidifier last night, but it’s a warm mist. I hear cool mist is better. Anyone know?

  4. Daphne, I hope you and Rex feel better soon. Can’t the hubs help get Viv up in the mornings? You look great, BTW!

Erin, Cool mist is better. I hope he feels better soon.

  5. That is one of the cutest one month olds I’ve ever seen. And I’m including my own children in that assessment.

For colds and gunk in babies noses, we found that the bulb syringe with the blunt tip that presses right up to the skin of their little nostrils (not the longer pointier one) really worked well. It was disgusting, yes, but what isn’t disgusting about the hygiene of newborns?

Hope you are all well again soon.

  6. good tips. I think we are a bit better now.
re: getting up, first have to wake hubby and then he heps.
re: nails, good thing about scheduled c section, got them done right before, but they don’t look that great, picture forgiving.

would just assume warm mist better. tried it one night, but too afraid Viv will walk in the morning and accidently get burned.
