And Now for Some Good News…

Posted by Daphne on Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

(Sound of trumpet!) Yesterday we received a copy of Mark's new cook book, "New Classic Family Dinners."

It will come out in October. But it is already available for order on Amazon, and Borders and is going to carry it as well. Hard to sell books these days, so this is all great news. This is the first we have seen of it. It was VERY EXCITING. As many of you probably know it takes a LONG time to write a cook book (See my video about Kate Gosselin's cookbook). A REAL cook book. Then once the lengthy part is done (he and his collaborator writing the book for over a year), it's in production for quite a while.

For all those moments when nothing happens, when a day blurs into the other, it's nice to have a day where one finally sees the fruits of ones labor. When we first started talking about this book, I was pregnant with Vivien and it was two homes ago. What a journey!

When it comes out, I have to have some kind of virtual book signing party on Cool Mom. Uncork the champagne and play "Ain't No Stopping Us Now."

————————————

Yesterday I was a last-minute guest on "Show Biz Tonight" on CNN Headline. Making jokes about Michele Obama wearing short shorts. Lemme say I was in the zone. I had so many one liners. The producer said, "I've been interviewing you for years, and you've never been this funny."

Hmm, what did I say??

"Baby's got back."

"Why shouldn't she wear shorts?  What are mom's suppose to wear, dumpy mom jeans? No, her husband can do that." (call back to baseball incident)

"Her shorts are in protest to the GOP's opposition to the public option. The more they protest, the shorter the shorts will get."

"Shorts-gate is such a big deal, Woodward and Bernstein are getting back together and…" (Can't remember the joke. I work in the moment and don't write it down, but I think that one was funny.)

I think it helped I did a double espresso beforehand. And I had already had an audition for a mom makeover show. First time auditioning in almost two years. More about that if anything comes of it…

CONGRATS TO MARK! AND, Oh! It looks beautiful, I cannot wait to get it. I'm going to order right after I do this.

Will Mark be having a book signing when he's better? I'd love to send my copy to you via P.O. Box, or some other safe address, to get it signed, from way over here in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

I can't wait to get it.

I do credit the double espresso with supplying you with your hilarious quips: some people get fueled with alcohol, I've always been grateful to caffeine. The powers of the bean of caffeine…the perfect drink, calms you down, amps you up ALL.AT.THE.SAME.TIME.

You can tell I've had my morning pot already, no orange rim for me…

WOW. Just visited Amazon's "Mark Peel" page…holy wow. What an interesting bio. You don't brag on him enough, honey.

And that man can really work an eye patch, he looks so dashing, too bad about all the restrictions during recovery, huh?

    I'm definitely pre-ordering right now!
I'm writing a cookbook too, and yes, it takes a very long time! You can't just copy the backs of soup labels and send it in. Like any book it needs a voice, and you can't get that in a month or even two!
Congrats to you and to Mark!

Awesome Daphne! Congrats to you and Mark. I can't wait to pick up a copy!

I read these comments to Mark ( since he can't read) and he was smiling and laughing. thanks.

Alexandra, Mark said not only would he sign it, he will plant a kiss mark on it as well ( not sure you want that) but he loves reading your comments. Just email me through the website. there is a contact. Or you can always send it to Campanile's address. I would like to give you a copy, but they didn't give us any but the one.

Glad you caught show biz… I think it helped that the producer had the same tongue and cheek/ironic thing that I was going for. sometimes they do. It was fun.

Awesome! My closest friends owns a catering business, and I'm going to display the book in the picture window. We were talking of having a cooking class based on "family friendly recipes", and we were going to use Mark's book as the "eye candy" in the window…it'll be great!!

I preordered 2 copies (one for me, one for the business) and I'll forward the book to you.

I know his "voice" will come through in this book, and it'll be so friendly, like a female Julia Child right there. Although he's a bit (OK, A LOT!!) easier on the eyes..

I'm always up for a good cookbook! I should totally do a review of it on my site - anything for the chance to eat!

What a great-looking cookbook. I will definitely get a copy of that for my friend - she loves to cook, and it looks like it would be a great gift for her.
