Left Turns

We all have our Waterloo. For some it's left turns. And they aren't necessarily conservatives.

I don't mind left turns…as long as it's someone else besides me doing them.

When my husband drives, I just close my eyes and let him do it. I won't do a left turn if there is any other possible route I can take.

I feel like all my main drive routes are specifically designed to not have to make Lefts without an arrow… and my friends, who drive the same paths as me, take the exact same left-turn-avoiding routes.

Maybe it is a girl thing.

I am with you. I don't mind it at a light, but I am not trying to do what your husband does. However, my husband does that as well. I tend to think that men are just more aggressive drivers and women are more scared/conservative drivers.

interesting… i've never heard of this and i surely don't avoid left turns myself. i'd be spending 3-4 times as long in the car if i did try to avoid them, as the streets aren't in nice grids here. it's a LONG way around to avoid a left turn in most areas of town.

I totally do the close my eyes thing. it's gotten worse since becoming a mom. much worse. Wendy do you live in Rome? ;)

I've been yelled at several times when I gasp or point hurriedly so , yes, closing my eyes makes EVERYONE happy. The pucker factor really kicks in (yeah, I said it) when we're turning into a parking spot and it looks like he's going to swing my 73 ft Santa Fe right into the left side of a Jaguar. Oye vey, the grey hairs I have!

daphne, i live in olympia, Wa, where there are watershed gorges all over the place, so roads stop and start and wind all over the place. and then there's the suburban neighborhoods that take up huge blocks that you have to around if one were avoiding left turns, since no roads go all the way thru the neighborhood. I'm sure there are areas of LA like this. :-)

so interesting about Olympia. LA streets arent' that interesting since this place was made for cars.

the closing eye thing…hmm I feel a vlog coming on.

You know a friend of mine recently mentioned her fear of left turns. I had no idea this was a somewhat common phenomena. Not a problem for me. And I can parallel park like a demon! I frequently ask hubby if he wants me to do it FOR HIM, heh.

I don't mind left turns but I do try to avoid u-turns at all costs… I agree that I've gotten more fearful of driving ever since I had kids. I worry about drunk drivers..

I avoid left turns depending on my mood. If I'm not up for fighting traffic and taking a gamble, I drive until I get to a light or right turn. I also avoid them during rush hour times because it takes forever, and people behind me get angry at me for taking my sweet time.
