Keeping Kids Healthy: Momversation
Share
Well, at momversation.com, I asked Mindy and Karen (and you all) what do you do to keep the illnesses from one child confined to only their little body? I know I really lucked out (knock wood) with Vivien's health as she was almost a year before she had a cold. Rex has had more colds. No science to back it up, but I figure it's because of his sister.
But when Vivien was newborn… I mean days old… Mark got whooping cough and Oliver–then 11–got it as well. I marvel and am eternally grateful that Vivien, and myself, were spared it. What did we do right? Mark and Oliver had minimal contact with baby Viv. But it was still the same house. So we really did right was get super lucky.

I had the same question today! Mine is and will be an only child and she has been sick twice in less than 4 weeks! It's ridiculous. She doesn't even go to daycare!
I guess you do as much as you can, but the nasty bugs will keep coming…I take it as "she's building her immune system" at the expense of a sleep-deprived, sick as well mommy..LOL
lol well said.
MY daughters and I just got over the swine flu. My two year old, who hardly ever gets sick, came down with it first and was extremely sick with an extremely high fever (that motrin worked wonders on) and all the other symptoms and I got very sick and ended up in the ER cuz my asthma started acting up really bad and I couldn't breath. My four month old, however, was ALL over me and only got a slight fever and runny nose from it! My husband, who was getting all sorts of hugs and kisses from my very ill two year old, didn't get sick at all! I have no idea how this happened. I think maybe some kids and people in general are just more prone to different kinds of illnesses and besides washing our hands I don't think there's much we can do!
P.S. Get the vaccine ASAP. They didn't tell us that it takes TWO WEEKS to take effect. Our neighborhood was rampant with it and we came down with it the day after we got the vaccine!
good question! I have 3 kids and I struggle with this. We have a HUGE bottle of antibacterial gel in the car and we are in a good habit of "washing" everyone's hands as soon as they get in the car from A-N-Y-W-H-E-R-E. I really think it has helped. We haven't been sick in a long, long time.
I do have questions/concerns about the h1n1 vacine. I watched a series of videos by a nun in Spain (i think). It was COMPELLING but also FREAKY. She seems very legit but I just don't know. It is called The Bell Tolls For The Swine Flu (sounds weird but what can I say). Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
I LOVE that Mindy Roberts (themommyblog.net) has a bottle of "409" spay cleanser behind her…how appropiate! LOL
(and I'm not even a detail-oriented person!! How the HECK did I noticed THAT?!)
Not so worried about the Swine flu as I am pretty sure we all got it and survived. Recently read an article in the local paper about an ER nurse pleading with people to NOT come down to the ER with their colds/flu's and infecting/taking time away from the people who are really sick. She also slammed the pharmecutical co. who produces Tamaxafin for making the most of the hype and making billions.
More people have died from the 'normal' flu's than the current H1N1. But it is getting such press..
That said, I did buy a huge bottle of antibacterial cleaner (and a bunch of small bottles) for us to carry and use. Never have I been more aware of the potential to pick up viruses going about our every day life, child or adult. We open doors countless others have, read menus others have handled.. etc. Clean those hands!
I know. when I walk in the house I try to always wash my hands.
Frances, yes, she noticed that afterwards, but thought it was funny.
I can't watch any videos about anti vaccinations. I see them without context and they just freak me out.
Even funnier than realizing that I'd left the 409 out in view? I had the swine flu during the taping but didn't know it yet!
