Year’s End

Right, so I MEANT to throw this up at the end of the year. But there goes my organization. I’ll put that on my list of resolutions. (Determined face and stubby pencil I write.) Keep better track of what I taped and when I put it up. Okay, that’s done.

It all still works, but when you here references to “this year,” know that I mean ’09.

How did you feel at year’s end?

  1. Acceptance is a huge step in any situation in our lives. It’s the first step to healing. :)

My “yucky” year was ’08, after the birth of my daughter. I had to accept the fact that I can’t have any more children b/c I had to have a hysterechtomy (sp?) in order for me not to bleed to death. I had no choice and no saying in this b/c it was a matter of life or death, and thankfully my doctor chose life…but I had to give up something bigger in order for me to still be here.

After the “Why me?!” phase, I accepted this fact, and now I can truly say that that experience was the BEST thing that has ever happened to me b/c it taught me to be grateful for being alive, thankful for my healthy daughter, and for my husband who was and is of great support.

So, I’ve moved on, and I know that 2010 WILL be a great year.

  2. I totally agree about acceptance. Last year I struggled with accepting my limitations, and until I finally stopped fighting it, I was banging my head against a big futile brick wall.

I attended a New Years Buddhist event a few years back, and one of the gals said: Instead of praying for prosperity and what-not, how about we pray for the strength to face whatever comes our way this year. That’s always stuck with me.

2010 should shape up to be an exciting year, as we are expecting a son in May! Praying for strength, you bet! :)

  3. First of all, and most importantly, you look great in this video. And I love your outfit — nice sweater and great jeans, what brand are they if I may be so bold?

Second, totally agree with your point about acceptance. So hard to do but so freeing. And yes, now we begin another year…..I’m really not expecting it to be great, and hopefully not horrible…..but good enough :)

  4. PS I also try to remember that the so-called worst things that happen to us are, invariably, the most instructive and useful in terms of our own personal growth. My lowest ebbs have resulted in my most dramatic changes, and those have always been for the best. So when something really shitty happens, which it occasionally does, I try to remember that there is something really, really great waiting on the other side.

  5. yes, there is a saying in improv ( I use to perform a lot) that “a mistake is a gift”. In performance it means not being peeved or thrown when you have established a scene as a banker and another performer comes on and says you are a tiger. By going with it you might create a hilarious tiger banker scene.
It’s very hard to remember this in life, but it can come in handy.
    Frances, glad you are healthy!
Thanks Leslie, I was pleased. I’ve been trying for better lighting. pretty sure they are Citizens of humanity, my default comfy jean. good for a woman with curves. My skinny jeans are Lucky, but I doubt I am wearing those there.

  6. Hi Daphne! First time actually perusing your website. I love Momversations but go for weeks without looking due to my current situation: 5 mo old twins and a 3 1/2 year old. Kind of a mind-blower.

I spent the summer of ’09 trying to accept the fact that I had to deliver my babies nearly 2 months early and that they were stuck in the NICU until they got bigger and healthier. That experience has changed me forever and I’m now a big fan of just plowing through whatever I must face. I know I haven’t completely healed mentally from that ordeal, but my kids are doing great. They have some minor issues, but nothing that cannot be addressed and eventually resolved. I would never want to relive 2009 but, man, did I learn a hell of a lot about myself, my husband and our abilities.

Thanks for the videos – I’m going to make a point of taking that break each day and watching.
