This is firmly why I refuse to let my friends refer to themselves as "single" moms while their husband are deployed. We can't go out with out boyfriends or have sex willy nilly with interesting people we meet, lol! I am a tad jealous... ;)

I love this post!

I used to be a single mom and while I went through all of those things you mentioned (financial hardship, rough divorce, having full custody of my daughter etc.), I look back on those days fondly, because I did have a new kind of freedom and it was very liberating. And I have to say that dating as a single mom was soooo much better than dating before I was married, had a kid and got divorced. I was just blunt, which is something I could never be before. Like if I went out with a guy and didn't like him, I didn't play the dodge his phone calls/ignore his emails game for the next two weeks. I just said, "Look, it was nice to meet you, but I'm not feeling this." After all, I was a busy lady with a child and I didn't have time for games.

And yes, I had some of those great dates you're jealous of--once a boyfriend took me on a business trip then surprised me with a spa day (massage, facial, mani, pedi, hair, makeup), complete with new dress and chaperoned limosine. That night we had dinner and drinks at a fabulous restaurant and then some seriously fabulous sex.

But then I met my husband, and all I can say about him is that he is my Angel. And even though being single was a lot of fun sometimes, I wouldn't trade him for the world. I actually recently wrote a post about this on my own blog (http://beingsuper.wordpress.com/2010/05/26/all-by-myself-dont-wanna-be/).

And in four weeks, we're expecting a new addition to our family. Oh how times change...usually for the better.
