July 5th – what up?

This day is so weird.  It’s a partial holiday.  Some have it off or took it off, others have not.  I sent Vivien to camp, but will pick her up early.  I am not doing a lot of work, but haven’t showered yet.  It’s all mixed up.

Am I the only one who thinks they shouldn’t have stayed up to see the fireworks?  Took forever and it was so late when they were done.  Then when we were driving back from the OC ( where we were with friends) fireworks were going off in every crappy industrial town along the 5.  Yes, I’m talking about you Commerce.  Traffic slowed as grown adults lost their ability to focus.

The good news is Mark is making his Fried Chicken!!! tonight at Campanile. He only does this a couple times a year.  It’s marinated overnight in buttermilk and onions.  Weight be dammed! Also, the 5th is the last day to get the bubble bath contest in.  This is the one Rex so admirably demonstrated for you all.  Kids 6 months to 3 years can take part.  Here is the link. One of me yapping and one of Rex being the sample bather.  Possible to win up to 10 grand, which would be nice.

These shorter weeks mean one has to accomplish more in the few days remaining of the week.  My new project: cleaning and organizing my garage.  No, don’t hold me back.  I’m on it!

4th of July

When 4th of July arrives a few things spring to mind: crap, it’s really the summer!  Did I make any vacation reservations? Oh, it’s too late.  Hmm, what can I scramble together? Didn’t get in bikini shape …again.

The next thing I think about is the day before, July 3rd.  Which I reminded Mark this morning is our 5th anniversary. We had both forgotten.  Then we get the “Wow, we should do something.” Sigh, more planning.

That’s a gig for more prosperous times, “The anniversary fairy”, so neither partner has to plan. The Anniversary Fairy takes care of it for you.  You know to keep the date clear and then the day of she gives you your itenarary.  Dinner at such and such, hotel room, flowers.  Has photos of you in your wedding dress framed and waiting in the room.  Is anyone writing this down?  (Oh, I am! I think it’s a great idea!)

I digress.. I was about to complain about a holiday I would love to love more.. 4th of July.  Happy Birthday America.

Help

um, I really need some assistance her,e people.  My nice organized toy area as exploded overnight.  Well, actually it’s been in the making for a while, but I think I finally got enough sleep to see how ghetto our play room had gotten.  This pile gets an larger and FEMA is going to have to come in and assist (and we know how helpful they are).

HELP!

So question: what’s an attractive (not super cheap crappy) shelving, storage for this stuff that isn’t real expensive? What has worked for you?  I can’t throw it all out.  Old Viv toys are now being played with by Rex.  I’ll try to think of some reward for the winning idea.;)

ADVERTISEMENT: Simply Fruit

I know this is a sponsored vid and all, but seriously, Vivien loves the simply fruit rolls.  Rex loves eating detergent that falls on the floor by the washer, but I’m not touting that (please, I stop him when he starts to dig in).

It’s not she doesn’t like fruit as well.  Both my kids will eat whole fruit no problem. But, its nice to have different things in the snack arsenal…

That’s what this campaign has been about for me.  Just thinking of a few things to keep them (or you) going so we all don’t get to cranky and get a little energy boost.

I’m giving away another General Mills lunch care package. All you have to do is submit a comment with your tips/advice for being a conscious snacker. Have you had to change up your snacking? What works for you? The winner will be announced on Friday, July 16th at 5pm PST.
