Ah, the carefree days of summer are ending. Laying around on the beach, tan skin and romances! Well, I’m sure that was someone’s summer. This vid is about how the work of summer. It’s a funny transition when summer starts. I have to get use to a new routine, then we wind further so that we have no routine and now I have to gear up for the routine again.
So camp/ summer school is it worth it?
…Sometimes I feel like EVERYTHING my kids do is just more work for me. I couldn’t find a decent (read: cheap) camp this year that lasted more than 2 days (seriously??)…so we skipped it & did cheerleading instead. It only lasts about 6 weeks…all I had to pay for was the body suit & the shoes…and there are lots of cute pictures & videos for grandparents & daddy. (Daddy gets videos in his email while he’s in Afghanistan.)
OMG. I think I will skip camp in a few years. Play with your friends outside, then read, then get bored is the new camp.
I’m always amazed that schools and other institutions think mothers have absolutely nothing to do and can devote full time work levels of time to all this stuff.
J – I like some camps, b/c it means we get to keep the regular schedule of school…for some kids (like mine) that is important. She does SO MUCH BETTER on a schedule. Even if she cries like a baby at bedtime…if bedtime is the same every night…she will go right to sleep. And if I get her up at the same time (even if we don’t have to do anything early) then she is a much nicer person during the day.
Plus, she still gets the exposure of going to a few different things like the zoo or museums. I often make plans to go to those places…but then the day comes & our toilet is overflowing so I have to wait for maintenance to show up…or there’s a freak chill and it’s July & 50 degrees out (yes…this happened!), lol.
And there was a bizarre incident in our neighborhood near the end of the school year & I don’t like for some of the other kids to play with my kids. So instead of sending them outside (like I did all school year) I take them up to our community center’s playplace…and just call non-street friends to come play with us.
Yay!!! That made me smile!
I forgot superhero day and felt like crap the whole week!
Had to drive back with fussy Henry still in the car because I forgot a change of pants for water fun day!
Lots ‘o work is right!
