Home Improvement Television

Lately I’ve been going to the gym more.  I’m doing intervals on the treadmill.  I did it to be fit and slimmer and I am finding that cutting back on drinking, healthy eats and regular exercise helps me deal with my grief.  I’m the one at the gym changing one of the 15 TV’s, set to football or ESPN, to shows on remodeling.

I was just working out to “Sell this House”. They have really long blocks of commericals.  I go slower during the show so I can see how they are removing bad wallpaper and taking out junk from a patio, then during the pitches I turn up the motor.

But, it doesn’t stop there…

  1. Daphne – it is SO not weird, I am totally the same. I even go to Rate My Space on HGTV.com during the day (yes, from work – gasp) for a quick fix.

I prefer House Hunters International when the location is somewhere non-beachy-vacation. I don’t care to watch wealthy Americans shop for beach houses … just not my thing … I like to see how people in other countries live. I enjoy watching a young couple in Berlin shop for a ‘flat’. Or a French family shop for a home in Spain. It is like a drug! As for the ‘regular’ House Hunters … I enjoy that too as long as I am not watching a couple of 24 year olds, just married, shopping for $500,000 mc-mansions that they can’t afford as they are just out of college. LOL

I could not live w/o HGTV!

  2. I’m so sorry for the grief you are feeling, hang in there. After a recent death, I found myself craving ritual. At the time I made teas frequently and I’d stand by the stove waiting for the water to heat, arms crossed, chilled to the bone.

  3. I agree. There is something about those shows. I also really love those shows where the people have had a contractor who totally effed up the house and then a team swoops in to fix it. Even better when the husband screws it up and has to wear the “it’s my fault” shirt during the repair.

Living in the midwest, I have the opposite reaction to house prices… lots of “Ohmigod. Can you believe that our house in Cali would be 500,000? Insane. How do people buy houses there?”

And, I totally agree with Lou— those 20-somethings buying million dollar homes make me suspicious…is she turning tricks at night? Is he a drug dealer? Maybe they are both in the mob. Always wonder about those “kids”.

  4. I LOVE HGTV!! Our favorite Sat morning ritual is waking up WHEN WE’RE DONE SLEEPING (hardly ever happens with a 7 month old) and turning on HGTV to Sell This House. Love Tanya and that Roger cracks me up with his goofy colors.

Anyways Daphne, just wanted to chime in and tell you that I ADORE YOU!!
    You’re so awesome..
and no.. you’re not wierd. You’re quirky… and so cute!
