Baby food …

So many things to get to in life… Like perhaps picking up the dry cleaning that I dropped off about 5 weeks ago.  Or perhaps I should write down some of Rex’s milestones, instead of just musing on them as I drop off to sleep…at 8:45pm.  True, I can’t even stay up for Dancing with the Stars anymore– even with Florence Henderson, I’m just too tired.

Well, this is another thing I finally got around to.  How long did you keep your baby food?

  1. Umm…As soon as I realized my kid was not a rice cereal kind of girl…I passed it on. She might have been 5 months or so.

I *did* just last week give an unopened pack of those same storage bags to a friend…I stopped nursing my NOW 3 yr old when she was 17 months…And we knew at 4 months that she would not take a bottle (she did before that, but then stopped all together). Sooo…Good thing they’re sealed, huh?

We only had like one or two jars of babyfood around anyway (cuz I used a handmill thing)…and I just dropped them off at my mom’s house b/c I figured she is the kind of mom who will be making a casserole, realize it’s not liquid enough, and open up that jar of mixed veggies and dump it in. :)

  2. Daphne – yet another post “ripped from the headlines” of my life. I was just in my pantry thinking about how disgusting it was to have to throw out the huge carton of babyfood jars that my 16 mos old no longer is interested in…BUT THEN, I had a thought: what if I slip the baby food (essentially veggie purees) into other things i’m making??? This is the Jessica Seinfeld concept of “tricking” them into eating veggies, which I kindasorta like, in concept. I haven’t tried it yet, but would love to know if anyone else has…

  3. Lisa…I did that for a while, and there are a few recipes I liked…but my older child caught on…and now eats only beige things. B/c she knew anything with color could have been “tainted”. :)

  4. Yeah… gotta do that periodically… or end up on an episode of hoarders…. But seriously, we were actually really good about getting rid of stuff (we kind of have to be living in an apartment), bottles, infant spoons, infant cereal, clothing… but my daughter is less then thrilled about eating/textures… so fruit/vegetable purees seem to be staying around for a while.
