Cooking with Coolmom & kids: oatmeal

Cooking with young children is not a quick job, but they love to help. Nothing fancy, not giving my husband a run for his money.  Just like to get the offspring involved in food preparation.  The hope is that they

1) understand what goes in food

2) an appreciation for fresh, healthy foods

3) They won’t starve when they go to college and call me when they are 18 asking me how to cook rice (yeah, I did that, and thanks mom for not saying “read the bag you dumbass.)

I get fixated on a breakfast for about a year at a time.  Right now I’m into Oatmeal ala Daph.

  1. Love this!
All but the honey, but that’s just me.
We do pretty much the same thing except I favor
microwaving it. Did you wash those berries first?

  2. This nothing I don’t love about this video – informative, funny, cute, makes me realize I need a nicer kitchen – 10 out of 10!

  3. Hey Daphne have you tried Quinoa? It makes a great breakfast, you can use water or even orange juice to cook it in and it tastes wonderful. Not to mention its REALLY healthy. If you have a rice cooker you can make it in that and save time, just make sure you rinse it first. I shut off my cooker at 15 minutes because I like my Quinoa to have a bit of bite. Other than that we have almost the exact same breakfast!

  4. I will check it out! I have had as a side with roasts, but not in the am.

…thanks for link to amazon but it’s for the cereal. The oatmeal is Awol. amazon has it listed, but not avail. the search goes on..
