Refresh!

So, what do you think?  It looks different right?

Coolmom.com has had a face lift.  In many ways it’s a make under.  I wanted a cleaner look and I needed to upgrade what I was working with as the site was built in early ’08 so it was like trying to keep a ’65 Fiat running.

Thanks to Steve Tsai for doing the work.  Here he is with his lovely wife Candice.  I took them to dinner at Campanile as a thank you.

A few things still need to be tweaked.  He still needs to import my vast video library.  It’s coming.  Notice the feature video on the right and we are refining the “best of” part as well.  I love that the blogs scroll from one to the next. I like this on others site and long wanted for here.

So, I started coolmom.com with Deca.tv.  It was their first foray into the mom blog world.  I did not want to be a blogger I just wanted to make funny videos for moms. Short ones.  In a few short years Deca evolved into a well known place for creating online video content for moms and I became a reluctant blogger.  Momversation was an off shoot of cool mom.  It began as we saw that advertisers wanted many voices to sponsor, not just one.  I used to own part of it, but then sold my part in it a few years ago, but stayed on as a contributor. Now, Deca is building bigger concepts and they kindly have handed me all the keys to coolmom.com.

Now, like a lot of mom bloggers, I’m doing this all on my own.

I will probably make mistakes.  I still have to figure out how to monetize this better.

I want to keep making funny videos for parents.  However, do to my new solo status they may have a lower production value, be simpler, have my clunky editing.  Please hang in there!  I will be writing more and want to maintain my original goal of being of giving moms ( and dads) a chuckle when they get a minute to themselves.  Short attention span theater!

Please feel free to give me advice, feedback, whatever.  I can’t do this without you!  I am also going to do some give aways to thank the core group who have hung on and tolerated my bumpy 2012.

  1. As much as I love clean fonts, this font is kinda hard to read with the super-clean white background. The letters almost fade into the background. Maybe thicken the letters up a bit? Just my .2$

  2. I am so proud of you for doing this! You go, girl! And I am grateful that I will still have coolmom.com to turn to when I have a few minutes or more. My visits always turn into more. I have and will always be a big fan. One bit of feedback – I think you would be the first to admit that your alternative school upbringing focused a bit more on empowerment and less on spelling and grammar. Can someone proof before you post? I’d be happy to lend a hand in this department since it will make me feel like a coolmom.com insider. Oh, and to be helpful, of course.

  3. Can’t wait to see how this next chapter evolves
Oh, and i empathize with the spelling bit. I have the same problem even though I am the daughter of an English teacher

  4. Love the new layout. I want an update on my blog but just changed the header and background because I am too lazy to do any major overhauling.

    I’ll still be here!

  5. i’m catching up on coolmom and am delighted in the changes. scrolling thru the blog entries = super best improvement!!

i loved momversation when it started, but unfortunately, it got too commercial or something, cuz it wasn’t as fun to watch the vids and it got hard to track what was happening (if i can’t follow it cleanly in rss, then i can’t follow!).

i’m sure you’re going to do an awesome job with your blog now that it’s entirely in your hands. :-)

  6. Wow.

    What changes.

I love it, it’s more you: and I love that.

    I sent you an email.

Blogger lost my blogroll/google reader/all my subscriptions when they changed their template.

I’m still slowly finding people back again. I had counted on my google reader for updates and never committed to memory who I followed.

And that blogroll of mine took two years to build up. And now I”m starting from scratch…two years of finding blogs I love, then gone over night.

But I’m so glad I found you again.

Because I feel such a connection with you. A very close friendship connection.

Your site is lovely, and your words so endearing, and your attitude so down to earth.

I don’t know how you have kept your authentic soul through the successes and notoriety you’ve had…but you have.
