Okay, a little break from local politics, but still, alas, LA centered event. Pretty preg czar Rosie Pope is throwing a little mommy party and you are invited. Rosie has her own maternity line, and some nice clothes for those of us who will not be popping…anymore. She is a maternity concierge. What? Does she make you dinner reservations? Think she helps expectant moms get their game plan together.
She is the star of the Bravo reality series “Pregnant in Heels”. She has helped famous moms to be look chic and one of the ladies who goes to this event will be picked to get a fab make over.
So, here is the deal, if you are in Southern California next week RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org for this event, tell them I sent you. Only five spots open and there will be a GIFT BAG.
That will get you into the event, meet Rosie, get her book, maybe get a make over. It’s sponsored by Scholarshare California’s 529 plan. The event is on May 29, get it, 5/29. Get it? At the Grove at 3rd and Fairfax in LA. It’s from 12 to 2. This is not a sponsored post, but they were nice to work with last year so I want to support them. Hey, in LA it’s not just about politics Best part
Valet parking will be provided for confirmed attendees.
WINNER PICKED! Brenna WON! THANKS FOR GETTING BACK TO ME RIGHT AWAY. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTIICPATED
I want my kids to like to cook. I want them to know that things, let’s call them “ingredients” go into something they eat. It’s why I like them to go pick things from our garden. It’s why, even though it takes longer to get the oatmeal out, I like when they “help” me. I like that they know, yes, this is a raw piece of meat we are going to season and then eat. Food doesn’t come from a box.
It’s also why I said, Yes, send me that sandwich press thingy to review. It’s Toas-Tite.
They say it’s a replica of the original from the 1940’s. ( you had me at the slogan “we are so yesterday”)). I guessed my kids would be into making sandwiches with it.
I guessed right. We had to make two sandwiches so they could each make their own, even though they can’t finish a full sandwich.
See how they love it? And they are ready if we have an intruder
How we did it:
1) butter or oil the inside of the pan
2) place bread on one side of toast tite, then the ham, cheese, whatever. Here is an example of a Rueben.
3) squish together. The kids like the assembly part, but they really like the smash, squish part. The outside edges of the bread are now no longer needed. I suggest cutting them off. If you don’t they will catch fire, no big deal, but maybe your smoke alarm will go off.
4) Adult person hold the “grill” over the flame. The instructions said 30 seconds each side.. no, longer. We liked it when we did about 2 minutes each side. Then you get the crispy rings on the outside like the picture and it’s melty inside.
5) pop it out and slice in half.
6) Eat. Minimal clean up.
So, here is the deal You, yes you! Can win a Toas-tite. I just ask that you “like” my Facebook page coolmomdotcom. If you are one of the few ( like my sisters) that aren’t on FB follow me on twitter or leave me a comment here telling me what is your favorite sandwich. Actually, I want to know what all your favorite sandwiches are and I need you to comment below so if you win I have an email to notify you.
This is ironic considering my husband presides over an famous night in LA restaurantdom, Campanile’s grilled cheese night.
He doesn’t use a Toas-tite, but he thinks it fine if we do.
Winner announced MONDAY am. ( note: if you win you have 48 hours after I email you to respond. If you don’t I will pick another winner) Good Luck!

I have a few vids and blogs coming about settling into our new digs. When we got the house, we found out we needed to get a washer and dryer as the previous owners wanted to take theirs with them. I had been doing some fantasy buying (where I stay up late and surf on images I covet, you know). My wandering eye settled on a pair of energy efficient front loaders from Kenmore. Oh, yeah, they knew they wanted me.
In one of those rare “put it out into the universe and it will come” types of things, I got an email from Kenmore that asked if I would judge a contest for them about Genius Tips. This is a fun read, let alone a great opportunity for you. They want tips about short cuts and hints to different domestic topics. There is a winner every month who gets a $3,000 Kenmore gift certificate. That would buy you a lot of Kenmore. So, I reached out to the Kenmore rep, told her of my love and desire for a Kenmore washer and dryer and how I could perhaps help them with their Genius Tips contest. Long story short, I got this washer and dryer to review.
When I picked them up at the local Sears (on Crenshaw), I did spend over $200 on a warranty for the washer (which MP told me not to buy, but I did). Otherwise, I was given this set to review and for my ongoing participation in the Genius Tips contest.
Here is my first take on the set (by the way, in the store, they seem to cost a little less depending upon the special being run).
Check out the Genius Tips. I have spent some time, after the kids go to bed, on that myself. The winning tip will be featured in a Kenmore ad.

Hey, here is a fun contest Rex and I worked on last month. It’s a super cute contest where you film your kid in a bubble bath and you can win up to 10 grand. I did the “here’s how you did it vid” and then Rex performed like a pro in the sample cute kid in bath video.
Not that I go to many parties anymore, but once in a while I venture out solo (easy to do when my husband works nights) and I have to get up to speed fast on social interaction with adults. Or I can use this strategy…
