I think the day I would like to have is Sit-on-the-Couch day. I’ve been nursing a cough… Rex and I have mommy and me coughs right now. Before I had kids, if I felt off I could put on my pajama pants, my worn sweatshirt from the ’80s, and watch trash TV on the couch while I ate chicken soup.
Well, that ain’t going to happen. But, oh, if it could. That’s the gift I would want.
Now, I don’t mean like that lady who did the old “oh, some black men have kidnapped me” bag o’ crap that nobody should have fallen for since that lady drove her kids in the lake using practically the same story. I mean come on lady, at least give credit to the balloon dad for originality. I’m thinking of a more lighthearted runaway situation. Like a half day at a spa. Or at least two hours reading a book at Coffee bean and tea leaf.
I’m sure I’m not the only one that has moments when you want to walk out the door unencumbered. My mom had a friend who did it for real. Left the 5 kids and the husband. Kind of ’70s thing I think. Course if I had 5 kids and no support I might bolt too.
I just want mini runaways. Because after a few hours I would miss my family. But, jeez, sometimes I’d like the chance to miss them.
One of the things that my kids and me most love to do is sit in our hammock in our back yard. The hammock was a present from their babysitter from her home country of Bolivia. The hammock holder was a house warming present from my mom for when we moved into our home (the one we had to sell.) Funny enough, in our newer domicile the yard is much smaller, but it has great shade. So in the afternoon we sit there under the dappled light. Vivien likes playing there and cuddling. It relaxes Rex before his nap.
It’s a place of sharing special moments with my kids.
Like this one.
Now don’t get me wrong in this vid, I don’t have it all wired and figured out, but it’s always easier to rag on a class of parents that some author has identified as off the mark. Easy pickings really. Here is my pick.
