I’m super chuffed that California’s Gov. Brown has signed into law one of the nations toughest vaccinations laws. In short it does away with a religious exemption. If there is a medical reason why the child cannot be vaccinated that works, but not someones personal belief. If the child is not vaccinated they cannot attend schools. They can go to home based schools.
A lot of good, nice, smart people feel strongly there is a link between vaccinations and conditions their children later developed. But, no cause has not been proven, it’s mostly anecdotal, and Jenny McCarthy has been discredited. More about lack of link HERE
If a certain percentage of the population isn’t vaccinated none of us our. Personal anecdotes are not proof either way, but I will add mine since I have it. When whooping cough was on the rise.
I only hope that one day there will also be a law that personal, religious beliefs is not good enough for circumcision. Something that to me that ranges from unnecessary to abusive. But, then that’s my personal belief.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people sticking their neck out on social media to say, “enough Anti Vaccinaters” in light of the recent measle outbreaks. I hadn’t rushed to the barricades for this round of the vaccination controversy, however we do have a story to tell. Most of it is in this video I did when I was pregnant with Rex.
Years later a producer for a PSA to raise awareness about the rise of whooping cough contacted me. She had heard my story and wondered if we would share it in the PSA. I said, yes, however they didn’t pick us. What chilled me was she said of all the families she had spoken to we were the ONLY ones who had had a newborn in a house with Whooping Cough where the baby did NOT die.
I’m a very lucky/blessed/happy person that this wonderful little girl is still with me.
Remember 12 year olds need a booster shot for whooping cough. I do not think parents should get an exemption for vaccination and imperil the rest of us. I never believe in hiding behind religion for bad decisions that run counter to the prevailing norms of the day. It’s no excuse to shroud woman and make then second class citizens. It’s no excuse to mutilate a newborn boys’s penis. It’s no excuse not to use modern medicine to protect us. As my friend and mentor Dr. Dean Edell once said to me when I was in a pique of hippy talk, “Mother nature doesn’t care if you live, mother nature wants us to die.”. We need to trip up her plans if possible.
Reading this warning about the rise in whooping cough is causing me once again to tell you about how it hit our home. Mark and Oliver got whooping cough when Vivien was born.
I thank my lucky stars all the time that she didn’t get it as it might have killed her. I am also thankful I didn’t get it because I would have coughed so hard my stitches from my c – section would have come out. We had to be in separate rooms from Mark and Oliver for many weeks, which meant I was SOL as a new mom needing help at home.
Whooping cough is AWFUL. Mark and Oliver survived it and had good doctors and meds, and still they had a HORRIBLE COUGH FOR THREE MONTHS. The kind of cough that is so intense you vomit.
Kids are suppose to have booster shots at 12. For all the anti- vaccine people who want to take their chances you piss me off because you are also taking chances with other people. Little kids are especially at risk.
I banked this vid before Rex’s birth, but I thought it mighty timely considering the health scare we just had with Rex. I was spoiled with Vivien. She didn’t get ill till she was 11 months. But others in the family did, and thank GOD my baby missed this one.
